Katilynn Swanson wins 2014 Cheese Fest button design contest
By Audra DePestel
PINE ISLAND – The Pine Island Cheese Festival Committee is proud to announce Katilynn Swanson as the 2014 Cheese Festival button design winner. Swanson is an eighth-grader at Pine Island Middle School and is the daughter of Lisa and Keith Swanson.
Swanson will receive a check for $50 and the first Cheese Fest button featuring her design. She was very excited and surprised she won. Her design was inspired by this year’s farming theme and the idea that her family always walks down to the carnival from their home during Cheese Fest.
Since 1996, students have been sharing their creativity in designing the Cheese Festival buttons. This year, 77 students entered the contest celebrating the 78th anniversary of Cheese Fest. Pine Island School art students in kindergarten through grade 12 were eligible to parti-cipate. Those who submitted drawings will receive a Cheese Fest button and their designs will be on display at the Pine Island Bank. The 2014 Cheese Fest buttons are $3 each and will be available for purchase at participating local businesses at the end of May/early June.
The Pine Island Cheese Festival runs June 6-8. The crowning of Miss Pine Island will be on Friday evening, June 6, at 7 p.m. in the maroon gym at Pine Island High School. Watch for upcoming information about Cheese Fest in the News-Record and Zumbro Shopper.
